Understanding and Treating Anxiety
Everyone can feel anxious at times as this is the body’s response to stressful situations. Anxiety is a feeling of intense discomfort, which drives people to avoid certain feared situations.
People may experience:
- Increased heart rate
- Rapid breathing
- Sweating
- Trembling
- Feel nervous
- Trouble concentrating
- A sense of impending doom
Some types of anxiety disorders include:
- Generalized anxiety
- Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Panic disorders
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Social anxiety
Who does it affect?
Anxiety disorders can affect people of any age. Occasionally, anxiety disorders are triggered by a past event or a stressful life experience. Unhelpful coping strategies learned from others, or certain beliefs, such as believing that everything must be perfect can also trigger anxiety. At other times, there may not appear to be a clear reason for your anxiety.
At Clear Path Counselling we will guide you to identify your triggers and join you in exploring how your thoughts and behaviours interact to ignite your anxiety. We are skilled in both Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and will apply these approaches as we assist in regulating your anxiety.
